Privacy policy
Effective 28 October 2026
The short version
- We collect only what we need to plan great days out for your family.
- We never ask for your children’s names, birthdates or photos. We only need how many children you have and their age groups.
- We never store your device location. The app rounds it to about 1 km before using it.
- We never sell your personal information, and we don’t show you advertising based on tracking you around the internet.
- Venues and councils only see anonymous totals, never your details.
- You can see, fix or delete your information at any time.
1. Who we are
1.1 This policy explains how Kidly Pty Ltd (Kidly, we, us) handles personal information when you use the Kidly app and website. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1.2 Kidly is designed for adults (parents, carers and family members) planning outings with children. Children do not hold Kidly accounts.
2. What we collect
We only collect information that is reasonably necessary to run Kidly. The table below sets out what we collect and why.
| Information | Why we collect it | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address and password (stored only in a scrambled form that can’t be read back) | To create and secure your account and contact you about it | Kidly; our hosting and email providers |
| How many children you have and their age groups (0-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16) | To suggest places and activities that suit your family | Kidly only |
| Your suburb and how far you’re happy to travel, or that you chose to use your location | To plan outings near you | Kidly only |
| Device location (only if you allow it) | To plan outings near where you are. The app rounds it to about 1 km before sending it | Kidly only; never stored |
| Plans you save: dates, times, places, and the activities and must-haves you chose | To show your saved plans and the deals in them | Kidly only |
| Deals you redeem and how much you saved | To run your savings wallet and stop a deal being claimed twice | Kidly; venues see that a deal was redeemed, never who redeemed it |
| Crash and error reports (such as device type and app version, never your name or email) | To find and fix problems | Kidly; our error-reporting provider |
| Messages you send us | To respond and resolve issues | Kidly |
2.1 Information about your children. We deliberately do not ask for children’s names, dates of birth, schools or photos. How many children you have and their age groups are enough for us to plan well. Venues must confirm that the photos they add show no identifiable children.
2.2 Sensitive information. We don’t ask for health or other sensitive information. Must-haves such as “pram-friendly” or “fenced” describe places, not your family.
2.3 You need an account. To use Kidly you need an account with a real email address. We send a code to that address to confirm it’s yours.
3. How we collect it
3.1 We collect information directly from you when you sign up, set your family details, plan and save outings, redeem deals or contact us, and automatically when the app crashes or reports an error.
3.2 We don’t buy personal information about you from data brokers.
4. How we use it
We use your information to:
- build plans and suggestions that suit your family and where you’re starting from;
- run your account, saved plans, savings wallet and deal redemptions;
- send service emails, such as sign-in codes and changes to your account;
- keep Kidly secure, prevent fraud (such as claiming a deal more than once) and fix problems;
- meet our legal obligations.
4.1 How the planner uses your information. Kidly’s planner uses your starting suburb or rounded location, how far you’re happy to travel, how many children you have, their age groups, the activities and must-haves you pick, and venues’ opening hours to suggest places automatically. A venue’s own deal for families can lift it in suggestions, but nothing a venue pays Kidly for ever does. These suggestions don’t affect your legal rights, and you can always change or ignore them.
4.2 No tracking-based advertising. We don’t show advertising that targets you based on your personal information or your activity on other apps and websites.
5. Who we share it with
5.1 We never sell your personal information.
5.2 We share information only as follows:
- Service providers who help us run Kidly: cloud hosting and email (Amazon Web Services), error reporting (Sentry) and app updates (Expo). They may use it only to provide services to us.
- Venues and councils, but only as anonymous, combined statistics (for example, “42 families redeemed this deal in July”). When you redeem a deal, venue staff see the deal and its PIN, not your name or email.
- Authorities, where required or authorised by law, or to lessen a serious threat to someone’s life, health or safety.
- A buyer or successor, if Kidly’s business is sold or restructured. They must continue to protect your information under this policy.
6. Overseas storage
6.1 We store your account, family details, saved plans and deal redemptions in Australia, with Amazon Web Services in Sydney. Crash and error reports are processed by Sentry in the United States, and app updates are delivered by Expo from the United States. We take reasonable steps under APP 8 to ensure these providers handle your information consistently with the APPs.
7. Cookies and analytics
7.1 The app keeps you signed in with secure storage on your phone, and our website uses cookies only to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies. You can control cookies in your browser settings.
8. Marketing
8.1 We don’t send marketing emails or push notifications. If we add them, they’ll be opt-in, and every marketing email will have an unsubscribe link. We’ll still send essential service emails, such as sign-in codes.
9. How we keep it safe
9.1 We use industry-standard security, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls so only staff who need information can see it, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
9.2 Data breaches. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we’ll notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. How long we keep it
10.1 We keep information only as long as we need it. When you delete your account, we delete your account, family details and saved plans straight away, and copies in our backups are removed as those backups expire. Deal redemptions are kept without anything that identifies you, so venues’ totals stay correct. We may keep some records where the law requires it.
10.2 We never store your device location. To open quickly, the app keeps your last rounded location and your lists on your phone, and clears them when you sign out.
11. Your choices and rights
You can:
- see the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it if it’s wrong, out of date or incomplete;
- ask us for a copy of your data;
- delete your account and data in the app or by emailing us (see kidlyapp.com/delete-account);
- change how many children you have, their age groups, your location and how far you travel at any time in the Family tab;
- turn location access on or off in the app or your phone’s settings.
Email hello@kidlyapp.com. We’ll respond within 30 days. There’s no charge for access requests. If we can’t agree to a request, we’ll explain why in writing.
12. Children and teenagers
12.1 Kidly accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. If we learn that a child has created an account, we’ll close it and delete its information.
12.2 We design Kidly with children’s privacy in mind: collecting the minimum needed, never collecting children’s names or images, and never using children’s information for advertising or selling it.
13. Third-party links and maps
13.1 Kidly links to venue websites and booking pages, and opens places in your maps app. When you leave Kidly, the other app’s or site’s privacy policy applies.
14. Complaints
14.1 If you have a concern about your privacy, please contact our Privacy Officer first at hello@kidlyapp.com. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 business days and resolve them within 30 days.
14.2 If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
15. Changes to this policy
15.1 We’ll post updates in the app and on our website. For significant changes, we’ll notify you at least 30 days in advance.
